great music at The Hub open house this Sat!

July 13, 2010

Hello Friends of The Hub!

I think you all should know it’s supposed to RAIN this Saturday afternoon.

I know what you’re thinking, because I’ve been thinking the same thing: “Great!  This is my chance to see 3-D toy-vampires learn Kung-Fu from Jackie Chan, while battling alien foes from the late 80’s…awesome.”

OR you could do this:

This Saturday from 11-3PM The Hub Theatre is hosting an open house  to celebrate the “warming” of our new theatrical home. The schedule of events for the afternoon includes a line-up of phenomenal local music, and fun for the whole family–FOR FREE— indoors.

Starting at 11:30AM indie chanteuse Kate Starr takes the stage. Kate’s glowing reviews are endless, but I particularly like this one: “Kate Starr’s the most expressive female rock singer I’ve heard in a long while. She ranks up there with Tori Amos, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and even the perfect pop voice of Karen Carpenter.”  – Producer, Lance Brenner. You can check out Kate’s music on her Myspace page.

Then at 12:45PM a pop-acoustic duo with the best belligerent, but not, band name ever, is up: The Don’t Call Us Sweethearts, are comprised of Ammar Malik and Lindsay Stovall from Fairfax, VA.  Checkout their music on their Myspace page.

Finally to round out the afternoon starting at 2:00PM we have Crys Matthews. Crys’ fusion of soulful folk and blues will be a fantastic way to slow down and close out the day. You can find out more about Crys at her website.

In addition to this wealth of phenomenal local talent there will also be face painting, and stories for the young’uns. As well as all  the information you could want about The Hub’s upcoming season: How you can be involved, how to purchase subscriptions, the reading series, as well as how to sign your budding young artist up for The Hub Theatre Holiday camp/show A Happy, Merry what? penned by The Hub’s own Helen Pafumi.

While you’re visiting don’t forget to purchase tickets to our evening performance of Summer Nights, a cabaret featuring  Donna Migliaccio, Gia Mora, Erin Driscoll and Jason Lott, singing your favorite standards and show tunes.

You can join us for ALL the festivities at:
The John Swayze Theatre
The New School of Northern, Va
9431 Silver King Court
Fairfax, Virginia 22031

See you there!
